December 9, 2003 LAUNCH OF THE GLOBAL COMMISSION ON INTERNATIONAL MIGRATION Geneva, Switzerland

The Global Commission on International Migration (GCIM) was launched on 9 December 2003 in the Palais des Nations in Geneva, in the presence of United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Kofi Annan, Swiss Foreign Minister, Mrs. Micheline Calmy-Rey, Swedish Migration Minister Mrs. Barbro Holmberg, Commission Co-Chair Dr. Mamphela Ramphele (South Africa), Commission Co-Chair Jan O. Karlsson (Sweden), Executive Director Dr. Rolf K. Jenny (Switzerland), and representatives of Brazil, Morocco and the Philippines.

Other Members of the Government Core Group that lent support to the creation of the Commission also attended, together with Geneva-based Permanent Missions, International Organisations and the media.
