GCIM 's Regional Hearing for Africa took place in Cape Town (South Africa) on February 28- March 1, 2005.
This international meeting was organised for the purpose of providing the Commission with concrete and concise information on present migration policy approaches in Africa; to consult with all relevant stakeholders on the principal migration trends and challenges in the region; to test the Commission’s own findings; and to identify areas of emerging consensus for consideration by the international community.
The Regional Hearing for Africa constitutes the fourth broad-based regional consultative meeting of the Commission, after the Regional Hearing for Asia and the Pacific in Manila in May 2004, the Regional Hearing for the Mediterranean and the Middle East in Cairo in September 2005, and the Regional Hearing for Europe in Budapest in November 2004. Our last Regional Hearing, for the Americas, will take place in Mexico in May 2005.
